No. 389—Vol. 15. 16 pp. [386-400], w/numerous stories, illustrations and cartoons.  Front page features stories of “the War in Louisiana” and “The Famous Confederate Privateer Alabama” [Commanded by Raphael Semmes]. Immediately below a half page illustration of Lake Pontchartrain boat action—” Capt. Healy and Three Men of the 9th Conn. Vol., Capturing a Sloop, Lade With Supplies and Correspondence for the Rebels, On Lake Pontchartrain, on the Night of February 8.” Interior illustrations include full page depictions of “The Confederate Privateer Steamer Alabama, Captain Semmes,” & “The Return of a Foraging Party of the 24th Regt. of the 24th Regt. Conn. Vol., With Their Spoils to Baton Rouge, Having Captured Horses, Carts, Wagons, Mules, Contrabands, etc.”

Exhibits light soiling and chipping at the extremities. Else VG, and a solid collectible. Frank Leslie’s Illustrated was very much on a par with Harper’s Weekly in the quality of its illustrations.  [JP]
