No.259—Vol. XII. 8 pp, 11.25 x 16”, 3 columns, w/various illustration. Front cover features a dramatic litho of the killing of Colonel Ellsworth—“Murder of Col. Elmer E. Ellsworth, of the New York Fire Zouaves, Alexandra, VA., By James W., Jackson, The Proprietor of the Hotel on the Morning of 24th Ult.—From a Sketch By Francis E. Brownell, of Company A, Who Revenged t His Officer By instantly Shooting His Murderer Dead.”

Interior illustrations include full page depictions of the “Secession Battery at Harper’s Ferry,  Erected on the Height Overlooking the Town; and “The German Regiment, Steuben Volunteers, Col John W. Geary, Col. Jon E. Bendix Commanding…(at) City Hall, New York, May 24th, 1861.” Plus an illustration of the “Occupation of Cairo, Illinois, By The Federal Troops, Camp Defiance.” And a spectacular center-page 8 sketch montage on Colonel Ellsworth’s death, and White House funeral.”

Exhibits slight chipping & a few small tears round the margin. Else VG. A solid early-war Frank Leslie’s collectible. In protective sleeve, w/white ward backing.  [JP]
