Ben Butler alongside a lengthy account of his activities leading up to the & Union occupation of Baltimore. Interior illustrations include a handsome sketch of Jefferson Davis and his Confederate cabinet, and another of “The Military Occupation of Baltimore—Major General Butler’s Encampment on Federal Hill.” Plus the Confederate “White House at Montgomery—Rent $5000 a Year,” and the City of Montgomery, as well as the “Quarter of the sixty-Ninth (Irish) Regiment New York State Militia, At Georgetown College, D.C,” and the “Sleeping-Bunks of the First Rhode Island Regiment, at the Patent Office, Washington,” and the mob attack on U.S. Volunteers at the “Corner of Fifth and Walnut Streets, St. Louis, Missouri.”
