General Burnham was the Colonel of the famed 6th Maine Volunteer Infantry, a unit that fought in almost all the major battles of the Eastern Theater of the war. This document is a requisition for uniforms for Captain Ralph W. Young, commander of Company G of the 6th Maine. Captain Young has signed this document twice, “R.W. Young / Capt / Commanding Co. G”. Captain Young would be killed 5 months after signing this document at the Second Battle of Fredericksburg. General Burnham adds his endorsement:

“Approved
