Printed telegram form filled out in ink. Dated January 1, 1864. Addressed to “Colt’s P.F.A.M. Co.” [Colt’s Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company].
“Please send immediately to the ordnance officer at the New York Navy Yard, one hundred thousand 100,000 cartridges for navy revolvers. Please answer by telegram. H.A. Wise”
Also of interest is date correction. As many of us do on January 1st of a new year, the “old” year was written (1863) and then written over with a “4”.
A nice Colt related item. [jet]
