Telegram on a South-Western Telegraph Company form. Dated July 1, 1861 from Holly Springs [TN? MS?] from W. S. McElmore to Col G French.  Possibly William S. McLemore  (Colonel of the 4th TN Cavalry) to Col. Samuel G. French?  In 1861 French was appointed chief of ordnance of the state of Mississippi. He was later a Maj Gen. who commanded divisions under D.H. Hill & Longstreet; he was also served at the siege of Vicksburg, the Atlanta Campaign and the Franklin-Nashville Campaign.

Text reads:  “Special Committee will wait on the Governor on Thursday about rifles I will be there also”.

Overall very good condition; minor soiling. [ld]
