Text: “Mr. E.H. Burnside, will deliver to ‘Batt’y G 1^st O[hio]. Vol. Artillery St. Marshall Two hundred Eighty Two (282”)’ pounds of Fresh Beef on account of Unite States government contract/ [signed] Lst Lt. 37 Ind. Vols Ajt. A. C. P., M. P.A./ 2^nd Divis. “Kentn.”

Battery “G”, 1^st Ohio Light Artillery was mustered in near Cincinnati, Ohio, Dec. 17, 1861. It served in the western theater, initially with the Army of the Ohio, later with the 14^th Corps, Army of the Cumberland. The Battery was engaged at the Battle Shiloh, in April 1862, and then later in the year at the Battle of Murfreesboro. It was present at Hoover’s Gap in the summer of 1863, and later engaged at the Battles of Chickamauga and Missionary ridge. Returned to Nashville, the Unit chased Nathan Bedford Forrest’s Cavalry around Tennessee during 1864 and was engaged near the year in the Battles of Franklin and Nashville and the pursuit of Hood. Duty in Nashville through June 1865. Moved to New Orleans, but was ordered home to be mustered out in August 31, 1865. During service it lost 6 men killed and mortally wounded and 27 by disease for a total of 33.
