This leaf of paper featuring a hand written inscription by Dan Sickles was taken from the book, “New York at Gettysburg”, which includes the final report by the New York Monuments Commission about the Gettysburg Battlefield. Inscription reads, “TO HOWARD O. WOOD ESQ WITH THE REGARDS OF D. SICKLES, MAJOR GENERAL U.S. ARMY, RETD. NEW YORK, APRIL 26TH 1916”. Attached smaller paper is a typed note by Sickles explaining that three thousand copies of the book were to be distributed to the participants with New York commands in the Battle of Gettysburg and their descendants. Page measures 7 ¾” wide by 7” long. Very clean with no chips or tears, just a couple of light wrinkles are present.
Accompanying the signed page is a lithograph image of Sickles with printed signature. Marking reads, “J.A. RUEFF, ENG. N.Y. Lithograph measures 7 ½” by 10 ½”. No flaws. [sl]
