This triangular bayonet has a long socket that meas. approx. 4.00 inches long with a rolled edge. Socket is cut with mortise for attaching to a musket barrel. This part of the bayonet is semi-bright with light to moderate mottling.

After the knuckle the blade starts rather wide at about 1.25 inches and tapers to a point after 16.00 inches. The face of the blade has no blood groove and has a light stamping on the flat that reads “WHEELER.” The face is dark with moderate pitting in two spots at its central point.

The underside of the blade has a central ridge flanked by two blood grooves. This underside matches the face in color but with only light pitting in two spots.
