A fine, original M1816 angular socket bayonet made for the US Model 1816 Flintlock musket. Bayonet still retains its original locking ring at the socket. Specimen appears to have been lightly cleaned and blade wears a mottled smooth gray finish with scattered light pitting overall. The triangular blade exhibits a shallow, 8¼” long flute. Specimen is 18½” long overall and has a 2¾” long socket. The bayonet’s flat shank is stamped “U.S.” No edge nicks. A sought after M1816 bayonet specimen.
