[See THE BAYONET BOOK, Watts & White, p. 428, ills. 908] Unique trowel bayonet made to accompany the M1873 .45-70 caliber “Trapdoor” Springfield rife. Measure 14.5 in overall length, 3.25” in width at the base, tapering and narrowing to pointed tip. Its 3.5” handle fits snuggly the .45-70 muzzle and sighting lug. Trowel blade exhibits light salt and pepper pitting and age-spotting. Else VG.
Black leather scabbard has brass tip, and belt loop attached with brass “U.S.” rosette. Bright Leather exhibits Light cracking throughout, but no flaking. Sharp “US” rosette. Overall Else Vg. & highly attractive. Another unique U.S. bayonet collectible.
