Model 1855 socket bayonet made by Collins & Company of Collinsville, Connecticut. This bayonet was intended for use with the Colt Special Model 1861 rifle musket.
This example is in good condition. The metal surfaces have a dark patina with some light to moderate pitting. Blade has a strong “US” stamp while the socket is also marked “C & Co.” The first “C” in the latter marking is faint but the rest of the mark is good.
Locking ring works properly. [ad]
