VERY RARE SWORD BAYONET WITH SOCKET MADE BY HORSTMANN & SONS OF PHILADELPHIA

$2,500.00

Quantity Available: 1

Item Code: 1000-937

This is a rarely seen sword bayonet.  This was for the 1841 Mississippi rifle and was made by Horstmann & Sons of Philadelphia.

The blade is 21” long with full length stopped fullers.  Full length bottom edge with no nicks and 5” false edge on top.  Ricasso is stamped with a king’s head, the symbol for Gebruder Weyersberg, a blade maker in Solingen.  The blade is dark brown with light surface oxidation overall.  There is a brass “washer” between the blade and cross guard with remnants of the original felt washer there also.

Cross guard is cast brass with bulbous ends. Measures 4” across and has a number “9” stamped in the center.  The handle and extended socket are one piece cast brass and also stamped with a “9”. Grip portion is 4” long. Extending from the handle, and offset, is the socket.  Socket is grooved and cut out to fit on the Mississippi rifle.  Nice deep patina on all brass.

A scarce bayonet in very good condition.  [jet]
