Very rare rebel bayonet made by in the Confederacy for the Richmond rifle-musket; the Southern copy of the US Model-1855 socket bayonet. This is the more desirable fluted type issued with newly made arms (the Richmond Armory also made a simpler non-fluted type). This bayonet is essentially a lesser-quality copy of the typical Springfield bayonet and does not bear the “US” stamp. This is of lighter construction and has other telltale characteristics of crude construction. Fair condition with a dark gray/brown color and some light surface oxidation. A very difficult and desirable Confederate bayonet to obtain! [jet]
