The blade is approx. 21.75 inches long with a slight upward curve near the point. Its surface is bright but with heavy mottling scattered over its surface and pitting in the ricasso area as well as a few small scattered spots but nothing major. Blade has a central fuller approx. 15.25 inches long. Obverse ricasso is marked “US.” Edge has some light wear.
Cast brass grip has a ribbed surface with a guard that ends in a round quillon on both sides. Top portion of the guard has opening to accommodate the barrel when the bayonet is fixed. Bird head shaped pommel has a channel cut at top for attaching to the stud on the rifle. Locking mechanism operates well. Brass surface has been lightly cleaned. Flat of grip shows some moderate indentations.
Bridle leather scabbard has a plain brass throat and drag. Throat has a brass keeper attached on one side while the drag has a ball decoration at bottom. The leather scabbard shows only light wear. Leather is strong. Rear seam is very good. Drag and throat are untouched. One side of the drag shows residue from a paper label. [ad]
