This British-made accoutrement is an original saber bayonet made for the two-band Enfield .577 caliber musket. Bayonet measures 28” overall and has a 22½” long steel blade with a single 15” long fuller on each side. All iron has a smooth, pewter-gray surface with darker speckling. Blade is marked with a Gebruder, Solingen symbol on right side of ricasso.
Cross guard measures 4 ¼”. Quillions at bottom and atop muzzle ring. The number “830” is stamped on the cross guard. Grips are checkered black leather and exhibit wear from use. Has “bird’s head” shaped pommel. Locking spring remains in place with “button” release.
