INDIA PATTERN (THIRD MODEL) BROWN BESS BAYONET WITH BAKER SPRING

$250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1037-229

This bayonet is generally in the bright with scattered gray and brown spotting, more concentrated on the blade flat, also with some stains that might clean. This is fitted with Baker’s improved India pattern spring catch with rounded shoulders and no mortise cut in the base ring for its rear tang. The blade is marked on the upper flat, “E/4” in an oval and “F” at base of the blade, with the initials GS between. We take these to be George Salter of Birmingham, who produced bayonets from 1812 to 1818 according to Bailey. The socket measures 3 7/8 inches and the bayonet is 20.5 inches long overall.  [SR]
