The Pattern 1913 Enfield was an experimental rifle developed by the Royal Small Arms Factory for the British Army as a result of its combat experience in the Second Boer War from 1899 to 1902. The weapon was to serve as a replacement for the Short Magazine Lee–Enfield. However, implementation of the Pattern 13 was rendered impractical by the outbreak of the First World War.
Blade is in excellent condition with all the original finish. The ricasso is blued and the rest of the blade looks to be parkerized. Blade meas. approx.17.00 inches long with a 12.25 inch long fuller. Ricasso is stamped on one side with “1913” over “4” and “16” showing it was made in April of 1916. Below this is “REMINGTON” in a circle. The other side of the ricasso is stamped with English proof marks. Blade edge is perfect.
Hilt has wood handles with two horizontal notches and a blued pommel and guard that retain most of their original finish.
Scabbard is of brown leather and sewn down the back. Leather is in excellent condition as is the metal throat and finial. Both are lightly stamped with an “RE.” [ad]
