This is the Model 1855 socket bayonet for Springfield rifle muskets. Measures approximately 21” overall. This specimen features a bright surface overall with scattered light gray “speckles” over the blade; socket wears more brown color. Complete with locking ring and screw. Large “US” clearly stamped on blade flat. Good condition.
Original black bridle leather scabbard with buff leather frog. The body is in good condition. The seam running up the back shows minor separation in small areas. Brass scabbard tip attached with four tacks. Arched buff leather frog is in very good condition. The frog is seven rivet style and is sewn and riveted to the scabbard. Scabbard has no marker’s or inspector’s marks. [jet]
