Mosin-Nagant rifles qualify as the oldest military weapons still in use, showing up in the Middle East and even as sniper rifles in established armed forces. During World War One they were the main infantry arm of the Russian army and with some modifications were produced for decades, supplied to many countries around the world, and captured and reissued by others. Much of the early production, however, came from the U.S. after the Russian government contracted for three million rifles through Remington and Westinghouse. Remington delivered about half a million before the Russian government fell and the orders were cancelled. The US army bought about 280,000 remaining in stock, which saved the company, and issued them out to the expeditionary forces headed to North Russia, and to the Czech Legion in Siberia, as well as to various National Guard, ROTC units, etc. the rifle even earned the designation of the “U.S. Rifle, 7.62 mm, Model of 1916.”

This is the regulation Mosin-Nagant bayonet, in very good condition, having a cruciform blade and socket attachment. Still having about all its original deep blue, this one has the serial number “48832” at the base of the blade near the neck. This is a common element of those made in the U.S. and the lack of Cyrillic characters also indicates it is one of those made here.   [sr]
