An original Harpers Ferry sword bayonet of the type that was being retrofitted for the older Model 1841 “Mississippi” rifles. Measures 27 ¼” long overall with a 22 3/8” long blade. The blade has a good edge and point with no nicks. Blade is bright with only a very few scattered dark spots. Fullers terminate with flat edges at the ricasso. Inspector’s stamp “PB / P” is on the ricasso.
The cast brass hilt is clean. The cross guard and ribbed handle are secured to the blade via a single transverse steel pin through the guard. The locking mechanism is intact and functional. Various small proof marks stamped on the handle.
As is correct for this pattern of bayonet, there are no markings other than the small proof marks, since all of them were made at the Harpers Ferry Armory.
Another scarce bayonet. [jet]
