This bayonet is an original Civil War saber bayonet for a .58 caliber rifle musket made by J. Henry & Sons of Philadelphia. Henry made approximately 600 muskets between 1861 and 1862.

Bayonet measures approximately 25” long overall with a 20” blade. The 5” long all-brass cast hilt is secured to the blade via a single transverse steel pin through the guard. Ribbed brass grip area displays a mellow patina. Upper top flat of grip area stamped with “14” just to the rear of the guard. Blade is semi-bright with scattered darker spotting. Blade is stamped “1862” on one side of ricasso and “COLLINS & CO / HARTFORD / CONN” on the other. Iron “button” and locking spring are in perfect working order.

A nice bayonet for a scarce Civil War musket.  [JET]
