An original Civil War socket bayonet model 1855 .58 caliber for the US model 1861/63 Springfield and various contract models. Manufactured by the Springfield Armory, blade marked “US” with small sub-inspector letter “S” with single dot above and below the “US”. Clasping ring stopper indicates manufacture after Nov. 1863. Bayonet semi-bright with scattered age spots. [ws]

This sword was probably sold by Schuyler, Hartley & Graham of New York. The pattern is pictured in their 1864 catalogue in figures 13 and 16. Rather than have a standard blade, the lightly curved 32 inch blade has "B.K." (Battery K) on the left… (870-447). Learn More »
