Overall the knife meas. approx. 13.50 inches. The blade is double edged and meas. approx. 8.75 inches long x 1.25 at the ricasso and then tapering to a point. Blade surface has a nice dark untouched patina. One edge is straight with the other has a little waviness showing its crude manufacture. Neither edge has any nicks. There are very small amounts of surface rust on the point. Blade surface also exhibits some flaws from forging.
Wood grip shows nice honest wear from handling. Base of the wood handle has an iron ferrule and elliptical guard whose surface matches the blade wonderfully. Distance from the base of the guard to the top of the wood grip is 4.75 inches. Wood handle has a crack on both sides running approx. 3.25 inches starting at the ferrule and running toward the pommel.
Knife comes from a central Virginia collection and is no doubt Southern in its manufacture. Knife has a great look and would fit well into any Confederate collection.
