This is definitely made as a fighting knife. The bone grip flares at the pommel, making it a pistol grip less likely to slip from the hand, and it is pierced for a lanyard or wrist strap as well, something not seen in hunting or utility knives. The grip is bone, showing brown lines and some wear from handling but in good condition. A small rivet near the upper edge of the handle indicates the blade tang is likely offset, as seen in knives made for cutting and chopping, and the blade flares out to show an impressive clip point, but with the weight obviously on the point most likely to make contact in a slashing blow. The crossguard is brass, with a medium patina to it, wide at the blade and narrowing slightly for the quillons. The base of the grip has a wide ferrule at the guard. The blade is smooth metal, muted steel gray in color with darker gray staining. The cutting edge, false edge, and point are very good.
This is an impressive fighting knife, well calculated to produce second thoughts in an opponent. [sr]
