SWEDISH / NORWEGIAN LARGE SIDE KNIFE

$175.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2020-849

The drawn knife meas. approx. 23.75 inches long from point to pommel. The blade itself meas. 18.25 inches and is about 1.75 inches wide at the ricasso. The surface of the blade is bright with light scattered mottling and scattered spots of pitting. True edge exhibits several nicks. Both of the ricasso are blank.

Brass “S” shaped guard is stamped “G508” and wiggles a bit.

Wood grip has a brass ferrule at bottom and is held to the tang by two brass rivets. Top of the grip ends in a round pommel with a brass rivet holding two brass washers at center of the pommel. This is not a repair but how the grip was fashioned. The wood shows some age and wear with a partially opened crack just behind the pommel.

Leather scabbard is complete with a brass finial and throat. The throat has a brass tab for attaching to a leather frog. Black leather scabbard is in good overall condition. It shows several surface cracks in the finish but nothing major. The back seam shows an area of minor separation approx. 5.00 inches long. This was caused by shrinkage of the leather over time.

For its age the item has a nice look to it and is an imposing weapon.  [ad]
