Nice solid example of the Model 1835 bayonet scabbard. Originally designed for use with the Model 1828 white buff leather shoulder belt and later converted for the use on the waist belt frog. This particular pattern .69 caliber type scabbard saw continuous service by the U.S. Regular Army, Infantry and various State Militia units from the 1840’s and throughout the Civil War era. Copper rivets attach the brass throat and bottom finial. (One missing at the throat collar on this example.) Leather body is in excellent condition, with a tight and unbroken seam. There are some very minor surface scrapes located on the face side, as well as some minor surface finish loss on the reverse (seam side).
