$995.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: E2403

Maker marked: “Mintzer / Philadelphia”. No inspectors’ marks. Blade measures 30½” in length, 1 1/8” in width at the hilt. Wide unstopped fullers are 20½” long with 14” narrow fullers. Both flats embellished with light engravings both floral and military motifs. Blade is fine condition with just slight pinprick pitting overall. One small edge nick some 12” from the tip. Blade never sharpened and retains its original, thin leather pad. Single band brass hilt bears decorative floral casting, as does the high-domed brass pommel. Hilt assembly is slightly loose on the blade tang. Original dark rayskin grips are tight to the wood handle and exhibit normal wear, especially at the high points. Brass wire tight. Center seam visible near bottom of grips. Brass hilt wears a pleasing, mellow bronze patina overall.

Black leather scabbard is supple with no weak or broken points but exhibits moderate to heavy wear with major flaking over the entire piece. Seam is still strong and tight. Retains all brass furniture, including drag, both sword bands, mounts and rings. Has all three small set screws. No maker marks visible on scabbard. Overall, a nice M1850 Foot Officer’s sword and scabbard by a seldom seen Philadelphia maker.
