Maker-mark: “N.P. Ames / Cabotville / 1846”. Inspector-mark: “U.S. / NWP”. Bright attractive blade measuring 35.75” in length, 1.25” in width at the base. Exhibits one small horizontal scratch, at mid-blade, on the obverse, as well as traces of light pitting near tip. Washer present. Hilt assembly tight and symmetrical. Brass-work displays medium coppery patina with light scratching and a minor ding or two. Grip leather & wire wrap are tight and near pristine. Scabbard has been lightly cleaned and exhibits a smooth light gray patina, with one minor dent near drag. Else VG plus. Solid Mexican War dated specimen of the old “Wrist Breaker”.
