Maker mark: “Tomes, Son / & Melvain / New York”; blade-mark: Emerson & Silver. Both markings crisp. Blade measures 32” in length, 1” in width at base, while exhibiting a bright patina, with light pitting near the base & slight traces of the same near the tip. Displays the customary floral etchings and regulation “US” marking on the obverse. Original washer. Brass hilt assembly is tight and symmetrical, with traces of remaining gilt on knuckleguard & pommel cap. Overall, medium coppery patina. Fine silver grip with handsome brass wrap.
Gilt, bullion-tasseled sword knot attached at pommel. Knot displays wear, wrinkles & dark coppery patina. Original metal scabbard has been professionally repaired, and handsomely overlaid with black leather, an original drag, mounts and carrying rings, displaying medium coppery patina and “221” stamping on the drag. Overall, VG.
Highly attractive “Foot” blade, with stunning silver handle. Solid collectible.
