Ames Model 1860 Staff & Field Officers Sword in excellent condition.
Offered is a high grade M1860 Staff and Field Officers Sword made by the Ames Manufacturing Company. The sword's overall length is 36.5 inches in the scabbard. It has a brass hilt, shark skin grip that is tightly bound with gilt wire. The guard is ornately decorated with an eagle surrounded by flags. The blade is in great condition and wonderfully etched with an eagle, drum, wreaths, "U.S." and "E. Pluribus Unum". It is also marked "Ames Mfg. Co. Chicopee Mass". The scabbard is also in great condition.
The adjustable guard is engraved “Presentation to / Lt. C.P. Long / Feb’y 8th 1882”. Research on this person is certainly a possibility.
