MODEL 1813 SABER BY STARR

$700.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 701-36

The blade on this saber meas. approx. 1 3/8 at the ricasso and is approx. 33.75 inches long. The blade has a slight curve and a clipped point. The surface of the blade is semi-bright with light scattered mottling and some light rub marks from being drawn and replaced in the scabbard. The edge is good with no nicks detected. The ricasso is marked “V  US  L.S. N. STARR” in four lines. The original leather washer is present but flattened.

The hilt is set at an acute angle which is proper for these swords. The grip is of ribbed leather with an iron ferrule at bottom and an iron back strap that ends in a simple bird head pommel. The knuckle bow is also made of iron and is “D” shaped. The top is cut to receive a sword knot. The face of the knuckle bow is stamped with a “V.” The iron surfaces have darkened with age and the leather of the grip has shrunk some opening a small gap just below the pommel cap.

The scabbard is iron and was japanned black. Some of the original color remains. Both mounts and rings are present but the iron in this area appears to have been cleaned. The scabbard has two dents. One is more easily felt than noticed. The drag still has the reinforcing band at bottom.
