This musician’s sword is full-length. The blade is semi-bright with very light mottling scattered along its surface. The edge is good and free of nicks. The ricasso is marked on one side “EMERSON & SILVER, TRENTON N.J.” while the opposite side is marked “US” with inspector’s initials of “D.F.M.” above the date “1863.” Leather washer at the base of the ricasso is gone.
Standard cast brass hilt with ribbed grip, round pommel cap and thin knucklebow ending in a quillon. Knucklebow is lightly stamped with the same inspector’s initials of “D. F. M.”
Scabbard is blued metal as is proper for Emerson & Silver swords. The scabbard body is in very nice condition. Both the brass drag and throat with frog stud are present. Drag has a number of small dings and some light creasing near the screw that anchors it. Drag is marked with inspector initials of “D. F. M.” Brass throat has some minor scratches.
Sword draws well but sticks a little when sheathed.
