Maker mark: “H. Horstmann & Sons / Philadelphia”. European import blade, semi-bright, measuring 28.5” in length, 1.125” width at the base. Exhibits light scratching, patches of age-spotting. Standard etchings, floral patterns, naval trophies, with reverse “USN”. Washer present, though worn. Gilt hilt assembly is tight and symmetrical, with “USN” etched on counter-guard. Brass work exhibits medium coppery patina with light scratching. Fine, tight sharkskin grip, with fine twisted brass wrap. Pristine black leather scabbard with gilt brass mountings. Extremely handsome. Fine naval collectible.
