Item Code: 172-2051

Non-maker marked import. Medium-gray blade measures 31.5" in length; exhibits 17 inches of crisp floral engraving on each side of blade, interspersed with elongated "US" on the obverse side, and a US flag on the reverse. Displays two small patches light pitting nine inches above the tip, as well as some light pitting at the tip itself. Blade exhibits one minor ding, else VG plus. Washer present. Brass hilt assembly with reverse counter guard is turned down, and both counter guards are engraved with scroll [obverse] and floral patterns, as are the knuckle guard and pommel. Such engraving on Civil War NCO swords was extremely rare, though a few other specimens do exist.

Hilt brass-work exhibits medium coppery patina, else VG plus. The metal scabbard has brass throat/frog, & drag, both of which are attached with single rivet. Both of which also exhibit medium coppery patina and a few minor dings. All in all, a highly collectible piece. Engraved NCO swords are few and far between.
