Item Code: 173-2142

This sword has a straight blade, guard and grip and is very similar to an American Hunting sword dating from 1760-1780.

Overall measurement of this sword is approx. 27.00 inches. The blade is semi-bright and meas. approx. 22.00 inches long x 1.25 inches wide at the ricasso. The blade has no fuller and a small chip out of the point. There is also a very small amount of pitting. The surface shows light scattered mottling while the edge is sharp but has several nicks. There is a false edge running along the top for 6.50 inches from the point. There are no markings.

The counterguard is elliptical and ends with ball quillons on each side.

The carved wooden handle is made of dark wood with a silver ferule at the bottom. There are signs of a missing pommel cap which was also probably made of silver. The wood grip does have some vertical cracks with old wood fill repairs. Despite these the grip is solid.

The sword is holding tightly together. There is no movement between the blade and the grip.
