A nice example of an Ames 1862 dated Naval cutlass carried by Naval seamen aboard a ship during the Civil War. The gray patina blade measures 25 7/8” long. Blade exhibits very minor, scattered tiny nicks. One side dated “1862”, reverse side with standard Ames stamping; section of the stamp is faint. Nice mellow patina to brass hilt, with minor dents. Wonderful leather grip, like most grips the wire wrap is missing. Ames serial number stamped on the inside quillion – “9M / 225”, or 9,225. Leather scabbard has cracking to outer surface with a small hole approx. ¼” wide missing along the edge. All rivets intact.
