A nice example of a Confederate manufactured cavalry sabre, the maker of which is unknown at this time. It is a copy of the Federal Model 1860 Cavalry Sabre. This sabre has a thin core grip, with about 1/3 of the black leather grip intact. Double strand untwisted wire present. The two branch guard and pommel cap are made of brass. Nice aged mellow patina. Nice tight hilt with no movement. Leather washer present.
The untouched curved blade measures 35 inches long, with tapered fullers on each side. Point is very sharp! No rust, pitting or nicks, just a nice gray patina. The sheet metal scabbard has the typical crude seam mold that runs the entire length. Two crudely cast brass mount rings present with both iron “O” loops. Sheet metal throat present. A very nice clean untouched scabbard with two minor dents.
