This style Eagle hilt was described by the Navy in 1830 and became the pattern for the regulation Model 1841.

Manufactured: England / Norfolk, VA  Maker: Joseph Rogers & Sons  Year: C1830s  Model: 1830  Size: 26 inch blade, .867 wide, .3 thick

The eagle pommel has carved feathers all the way down the back strap. There is a folding guard with acorn and oak leaf raised design and a smaller and undecorated folding counter guard on the reverse. The grip is carved ivory and the quillon has an acorn on each end. The blade is a single fuller with: “Manufactured / By / Joseph Rogers / & Sons /for C. Hall / Norfolk, Va.” white etched and decorated with a blued background and gold etched designs of a fouled anchor, a ring of stars and oak leaf branch with acorns. The back seamed leather scabbard has a frog stud and carry rings and the gilt mounts are decorated with an  engraved ring of 14 stars, a fouled anchor and acorns and oak leaves on the drag.
