A beautifully designed sword with a cast, solid half basket guard. The guard has raised, simulated branches, A central disk with Eagle and fouled anchor. Two holes for the sword knot and a folding counter guard. The pommel is a great Eagle with chased feathers running all the way down the attached back strap. The grip is ray skin wrapped with finely twisted wire and two flanking strands. The etched blade has a large single fuller and no secondary fuller. The obverse has a urn, foliate, stand of arms with a U.S. Federal shield, anchor and a sailor atop the mast. An Eagle sits above with a blank ribbon and acorn and oak leaf foliate. The reverse has scroll work on the ricasso, maker address: Lees / & Sons / London. A large panel reading: United States Navy, an anchor and trident, an eagle and foliate. The scabbard is back seamed heavy leather with long, gilt mounts. The top mount has an applied star inside an oval and edge appliqué. The center mount has an applied anchor and matching appliqué and the matching drag has acorn & oak leaves applied. All three mounts have a stippled background and heavy gilt.
