Pre-Civil War Marine Corps Mamaluke sabers are quite rare. This one is made by F. W. Widmann of Philadelphia and is so etched on the blade. The Blade also reads U.S. Marine under a crossed anchor and caduceus and over a stand of arms with musket and fixed bayonet. There are other military trophies and foliate decoration. The top of the blade is flat with a single fuller starting about 6 inched down from the guard running to the lower portion of the blade where it develops into a unique double fuller. The brass scabbard has a distinctive raised center line and is engraved with a Federal shield with a stand of arms and a Federal Eagle. [ss]
