Classic example. Modeled after the US M1840 Heavy Cavalry Sabre. Under closed examination the flaws associated with many Confederate manufactured edged weapons stand out. The pommel cap is much less refined as is the entire two branch brass hilt. Casting flaws and fine finishing file marks are visible. The nearly 36” single edged blade also has a flaw near the ricasso which may be the biggest flaw we have ever seen.
The grip of the sabre retains none of its original leather but still has its crudely twisted double strand wire wrap. The pommel cap and guard have the number “37” stamped in small numbers. The blade edge is free of any nicks and has a nice untouched patina with a smooth metal – no pitting. The brass hilt also has a nice patina.
A nice example.
