36.5” overall length, 29.75” blade, by .75” wide at the hilt. Slender tapering blade exhibits light wear, with etched floral patterns, trophies of war, E Pluribus Unum (on both obverse & reverse), and the company maker-mark: “W.H. Horstman / & Sons / Philadelphia”. Brass knight’s head pommel cap, with florally etched knuckle & counter guard, terminating in eagle headed quillon. Turned down brass counter guard, adorned with spread counter guard. Sides of the grip are smooth ivory, slightly yellowed, and handsome.
Brass scabbard is missing its drag. Exhibits two or three minor dings but is otherwise in excellent shape, with etched floral patterns on obverse side. Two carrying rings and an attractively etched frog stud. Overall, with its Knight’s head pommel and ivory grips, a handsome pre-CW militia sword, nicely priced. [jp]
