High grade regulation model 1850 staff & field officer's sword. Silver grip with very fancy 4 strand wire twisted into one. Very high relief cast and chased pommel and half basket guard with openwork US. The blade is marked on the reverse ricasso - W. / Clauberg over standing knight / Solingen. The etching is finely detailed: a stand of arms with U.S. flag and Liberty cap, a fancy script U.S. and a theater drape. The obverse has a stand of arms with U.S. shield, full spread winged American Eagle and delicate scroll, floral and geometric design. The very heavy scabbard has very large openwork mounts and drag of intricate design consisting of geometric and foliate.
