Great early Ames foot officer’s sword. Has a rare and early blade etch that is not normally encountered. Brass guard, sharkskin wrap and wire are in great shape. Guard has light gilt still present. Blade etch is very strong and still has some frost. This pattern blade etch is found on swords from 1850 to 1853. Obvers blade has foliate / Spread winged Eagle / foliate. Reverse has Ames name in ricasso / foliate / Block US / foliate. Scabbard leather is in wonderful shape. The mounts also retain some light gilt.
Great early example not normally encountered.
