An unusual pattern we have not encountered very often. The sword is marked near the ricasso on the blade spine “Sold by C & JD Wolfe New York.” (Christopher and John David Wolfe). The firm no doubt imported the sword. The stirrup guard is brass and silver-washed. Much of the silver is dark. The original ivory grip with carved line is in VF condition. The backstrap is integral with the pommel with nine shell designs from the ferrule to the pommel. The pommel has a pinwheel design around the exposed blade tag. Langet on each side with leaf designs.

The spectacular curved blade measures 30 ½” long. It is marked “WARRANTED” in a panel near the ricasso. Two thirds of its length is profusely decorated with scroll/leaf designs, panoply of arms, an Indian Chief, an American eagle with riband in its beak with “E Pluribus Unum”. Reverse side similar with Lady Liberty replacing the chief. The blade is superb. Lots of original luster and shine. There are several small nicks along the blade edge in a two inch area.

The plain scabbard has two carrying rings. There is some light surface rust near the drag. The scabbard appears to have been browned when manufactured and an astonishing 95% of its original finish remains. Attached to the bottom mount is a chain and swivel from the officer’s sword belt. Also attached to the hilt is a small section of silver sword knot.

Incredible sword for condition.  [ss]
