ROBY MODEL 1840 MUSICIAN’S SWORD AND SCABBARD DATED 1863

$750.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 988-03

This is a Model 1840 musician’s sword. In excellent overall condition. Sword is approximately 34 ½” long and has a beautiful leather scabbard. The 28” long straight sword blade is mirror bright with no nicks. The ricasso bears a clear C. ROBY. / W. CHELMSFORD, MS. stamp on one side and a strong “U.S. / 1863 / F.S.S.” on the other. The sword’s brass hilt features a simulated wire-wrap grip, no guard, and a single-branch knucklebow.  Inspector’s initials (FSS) are found on the knucklebow. Brass has an uncleaned, mellow patina. Original leather washer remains.

Black leather scabbard is in amazing condition; with no breaks and only one crease at the top of the drag. Leather has no cracking to the finish. Stitching is complete and remains tight. Fitted with brass drag and throat. There are no dents to the brass furniture. The drag shows no wear and the inspector’s initials (FSS) are again found on that piece. Belt hook remains in place on brass throat as does red wool lining on inside.

Any collector will find it difficult to acquire a finer Civil War musician’s sword and scabbard.   [jet]
