Overall the blade meas. approx. 26.00 inches long. It has an unstopped fuller that runs approx. 19.25 inches long. The blade is in good condition with a surface that is bright with scattered light mottling. There is no pitting but one side does have four small areas of surface rust that can easily be cleaned. True edge has three or four small nicks. The obverse ricasso is marked simply “1862” while the reverse ricasso has a good Ames Manufacturing mark in a scroll.
The grip is covered in black leather but there is no wire wrap. Leather shows light surface wear but is otherwise good. The brass basket and counterguard are good but the basket shows numerous small dents.
The leather scabbard is in nice condition and is complete. The surface of the leather shows some moderate surface crazing. Leather is strong with no weak spots. Brass stud for attaching to fog is present.
