Very bright and clean beautiful blade with three very small nicks that are easier felt than seen. Obverse ricasso is marked “US G KC 1864” while the reverse ricasso has “MADE BY AMES MFG. CO, CHICOPEE, MASS.” The stamping of the inspector’s initials is uneven. Remains of the washer is present below the guard at the base of the ricasso.
Hilt is all made of brass with a ribbed grip. Single knuckle bow with narrow counterguard ending in a quillon has a light patina to match the grip. Knucklebow has only the letter “F” visible.
Leather scabbard has brass throat and drag with a patina that matches the hilt. The sewn seam down the back of the scabbard is solid and holding tight. The surface of the leather has small amounts of crazing from age but nothing serious. Drag is stamped “A.D.K.” [ad]
