$5,595.00

Quantity Available: 1

Item Code: 998-143

The drawn sword meas. approx. 41.00 inches from point to pommel. The blade itself is very bright with just the slightest scattered mottling and a point that has a slight bend in the last 0.50 inch. True edge is free of nicks. The blade also has an unstopped fuller running approx. 26.50 inches. Ricassos are unmarked. Complete leather washer is present against the base of the guard.

Hilt has the usual brass domed pommel cap and three branch knucklebow with a quillon that has been bent forward toward the blade, which is a usual sign of use. Wood grip is covered in a nice brown leather with a single straight brass wire wrap. Leather shows very light surface wear and the wire is excellent. Hilt is tight to the blade. Brass has a mellow patina.

Iron scabbard is a product of the Ames Manufacturing Company and began life as a Union scabbard. At some point it passed into Confederate hands and had a wide brass throat attached to it. Mounts and rings are iron. The surface has a nice dark patina. There re one or two shallow dents on the lower portion of the scabbard along with some light surface rust and dirt.

Very nice example of a Confederate sabre.  [ad]
